Well, my Astro's currently work for every known system right now. They work with the Xbox via the chat cable into the controller but the PS3 has a separate chat cable that runs from the PS3 to the base unit (no chat cable to controller needed). I am hoping a solution like this will work for the next gen consoles as well. Astro is pretty well known for it adaptability. That is why I bought it in the first place. I didn't want to be tied down to one console. Fingers crossed that Astro can adapt to the next generation as well. Maybe with just having to buy a new cord or something.

For you then it sounds like the Astro's might get a new chat cable and you'll be off and running. That will be nice if so.

Well, I am hopeful but I would sure like to know more. I would not mind upgrading to a fully wireless system like with the Warhead 7.1 for the 360. Fully wireless is nice. Just a shame it took like 10 years for someone to make one for the 360. Launching at the end of a console is weaksauce. If it does require buying a new headset, I hope good options are available from the start. NEED MORE INFO!!!!!

Why is everyone so certain the mic will have to plug into the controller? It would make far more sense to me if they just had the mic slot in the back of the console like PCs do.

That is sort of what I was thinking actually. That is how the PS3 works now. New cable and good to go.

Ok so I couldn't paste a pic of the rear inputs but this page has a pic I don't see any mic input. Do you?

That's a long cable compared to the controler one. Plus it's all wifi (not bluetooth) so there could be wireless options.

I don't what the last two ports on the far right are either. One could be proprietary chat like the PS3 has. Don't know. I think it is more likely that it is fully wireless chat. Whether or not it will be available to 3rd party or not remains to be seen.

What is wrong with 2.4ghz?

Far right- one was the IR connection for the IR blaster (so you can controll any cable box). I thought the other was the Kinect, but I don't remember. Need to look on Engaget and see it again.

everything in your house runs on a 2.4ghz so theres ALot of interference

Yeah, 2.4 is far overused and does not have a lot of channels to separate signals. For someone like me with a lot of wireless devices in the area, it'd destroy the chat quality and probably cause a buzz for me and potentially anyone I'm chatting with.

Here is a good pic of the back. I'm just glad they have the optical out, as most of the current headsets are using that, plus my old reciever doesn't have HDMI in for the sound.



So what I see is=

Power - HDMI Out - Optical Audio Out - HDMI In - USB3 x2 - Kinect - IR out - Cat5 Connection

Maybe that is not IR out, but I would guess that is the connection for an IR blaster. With an IR blaster and the HDMI pass through, you can put the blaster next to your cable box to control it (like having a universal remote control) and have the image overlay like was shown.

pretty sure that is for a pass through for TV. So you can use and cable provider, not just the ones that sign up.

Which would be very convenient. Being able to just plug my Dish receiver into the xbox would be amazing. I'd never have to turn it off then.

I agree. I was worried that the TV stuff would be exclusive to the "chosen" cable providers, which alas, I am not part of. But some of the features showed yesterday will be exclusive to those providers. Especially the ESPN stuff which I can't use now and won't be able to when this launches either.

I don't. It's all gravy to me as far as I'm concerned. Will it connect all my devices? Great! But I still only really care about games. I have said it before and will say it again...

Sure that stuff (TV stuff) is great, but I don't actually care about it at all. I care about games and gaming.

Will I use the extra features? Maybe. Some more than others. Is it cool? Hell yes! Some of it anyway. Do I care if thos features ship with the final product? Not really.

Now if it cooked my diner and did the laundry, that would be a different story.

Some of us like our games and tv, some are more dinner and laundry types.
