Re: E-Class Hotlaps
Thanks. I know that everyone thinks the Pinto is a real piece of $hit but the only thing that I'd really like for it is some more top end speed. Anything that I do for that seems to kick it into the D-class so I'll work with what I've got.
I've done a bunch of hotlaps on various tracks and this is a Puppet car, it gets me times that are right around OC (which is where I usually finish in races), the handling is what I like and it's novelty style fun.
I'll be hotlapping today to see if I can squeeze up to the top of any of the other tracks and for the first time I'll actually have a gauge of how my car will do on the tracks so I can vote for tracks that suit my car, rather than just tracks that I like to race.

Re: E-Class Hotlaps
On certain tracks I've actually seen a decent amount of top 100 times out of the pinto. So the car definitely has some potential. I'll post some lap times tonight an see how my cars compare.

I tried using the Pinto yesterday on some tracks but just couldn't get what I wanted out of it.

Re: E-Class Hotlaps
I know that we don't race loops or ovals in tourneys but I just posted a top friends time for the Top Gear outer loop: 1:05.645. The more I drive this Pinto the more I like it. I've started going back and beating the hotlap times that I posted last night so I think I'm getting the hang of this car. I look forward to getting on the track and racing against other players. I'll probably do some career races with it to get the feel of how it handles in traffic.

Re: E-Class Hotlaps
I really need to learn how to drive fwd and rwd cuz I'd like to use my rwd setup for faster launch and accel (especially on tracks with more long straights) but when I do I can't handle the car unless it's just for drag. I guess I've got a couple days to tweak it before the tourney.

RWD for faster launch? Did you mean AWD? AWD is the best drivetrain for the average racer. Hell, even I prefer it depending on the car. RWD is generally faster around the track due to the fact that the front wheels can turn in faster but you also run the risk of loosing control or sliding around the corners. This will obviously cost you some time but if you get it right, RWD cars are very fast around the track. AWD is faster off the line and more stable through the corners. Less likely to spin out and easier to control if you do.
FWD cars are garbage. Period.

Re: E-Class Hotlaps
Good info to know. I was looking more towards RWD for the speed but I made the statement because I can't seem to handle most cars unless I can use them in AWD.
I just dislike that it seems as though I compromise too much speed to get the handling I want. I guess I'll just have to learn to fully tweak grippy cars and then learn how to drive them perfect.

I generally run with AWD when I can but as Puppet has just alluded to, you really have to make the handling count, otherwise you're just going to be a sitting duck.

Re: E-Class Hotlaps
I used to only race AWD in Forza 3. Frankly they were overpowered and just faster than the other versions of a car so it just wasn't worth racing anything but AWD. Fortunately, things are different here in Forza 4 and RWD cars are no longer nerfed. They are faster around the track if you can control them so there is now a good risk vs reward thing going on. I still like AWD, especially in the higher powered car classes but RWD is a good option for these lower class cars (if you can handle them).

I need to rebuild my elan. I set a 1:06:xxx with my c1 and the elan was right there with it but should really be doing better on the track.

I haven't tried either of those cars, maybe I'll try to throw one together tonight and see if I can get something better for me than my Pinto.

Re: E-Class Hotlaps
For E class and D class I prefer fwd. Ever other class I'll do a mix of whatever sounds fun. Tearing it up with the Peugeot 107. Gonna throw on a better paint job for the tournament.

This should be interesting. The battle between the high speed cars vs the handling cars is gonna be very interesting.

Re: E-Class Hotlaps
I can't stand high speed cars with no handling. I'd actually prefer to run a tiny bit slower knowing I have the confidence that I'm not going to be flying into a turn and miss it by just a little bit and crash. I've always found that for my style of racing that the steady approach has always worked better for me.

Re: E-Class Hotlaps
Well, I didn't say no handling. My car can take a corner very well but it is set up for speed as well. I generally find that a car with a good balance is best.
General tip: You can fun faster hotlaps with an ultra high handling car but they generally don't do as well in a pack of other players. You have to have the power to over take when push comes to shove. If you spend all day running hotlaps you may be surprised when race day comes and you can't keep up. Be sure to run some practice against other real people as well.
@ Husker - F#ck you and your hotlap time on Mugello Club. It's the only time I have not been able to beat. Ridiculously fast bro.

Agreed. When you're hotlapping and learning a track, you find out that there is a lot of time lost going wide into a corner, or turning in too early, having to correct, and then ending up with poor exit speed. I much prefer to try and drive well and capitalise on the mistakes of others.
I wouldn't agree with the overtaking part. That's really down to the track.

Re: E-Class Hotlaps
I've been going back and completing E-class events in Career Mode to practice driving in traffic and to complete some events I missed/get more money to build. I am finding that I need to take some of my handling and trade for speed because I was having the same issue that Zak was talking about (not being able to take positions/hold off opponents).
@ Husker - Good to know that there's another out there to challenge the boys at the front.

Re: E-Class Hotlaps
Of course, everyone's driving style is different too. Some people are just going to prefer different types of cars/handling. Generally speaking I put all of the handling parts on a car first and then fill in with engine parts on what ever PI I have left. That said, I still prefer a faster car to a slower one. Especially if there is only a small difference in handling.
In E-Class, my Del Sol is very much like this. It will hold a fast line almost as well as my 107 or the C1 but it has a lot more top end and high end acceleration. On the flip side, it is not the fastest car I own either. I have cars that accelerate better and/or have a higher top end. The Del Sol strikes a nice balance for me and my driving style.

Nice. I know I had beat a few of your times yesterday too. Most of them were pretty solid times too. Not easy to beat. Are you going to be at the Tourney tonight?
